Rules and Regulations Governing Volunteers
The following must be adhered to at all times while volunteering and residing at Brydges Centre.
- All volunteers must abide by all policies and procedures,and if any variance is felt to be needed they must first consult the Director or Senior Staff.
- Our main concern at Brydges Centre is the safety and well being of the children. So while some rules may seem extreme it is required that you abide by them at all times. Final authority rests with the Director.
- Introduction of anything new (taking the children to internet cafes, videos, music, etc) must be approved by the administration before hand.
- Taking our children on educational or entertainment excursions, medical check-ups (unless it is an emergency case) must be approved by the administration 24 hours prior. Any and all costs incurred will be settled by whoever makes the arrangements.
- Alcohol, smoking, immoral influence (as determined by the Director), and any activity considered out of line with biblical standards are not allowed whatsoever.
- All donations, either cash or material items, must be channeled through the main office and approved by the Director. To help provide accountability and transparency, volunteers will be given a receipt for whatever is donated either in cash or any other item. The volunteer should also disclose the material value.
- Volunteers will not facilitate their own interest using the Centre as a cover up or launching pad for ulterior motives.
- If volunteers want to buy anything for the children, they will have to consult the management for advice on variety, quality and quantity respectively. Under no circumstances will a volunteer purchase or give an item or items to the children without prior approval.
- Volunteers willing to share room(s) must be of the same gender unless they are a legally married couple.
Policy for receiving and processing gifts from international volunteers
The following guidelines are for any gifts received from a volunteer that comes to serve at Brydges Centre – Kenya. The enforcement of these guidelines will ensure and maintain our organizational integrity and provide a tool for fair distribution of these gifts while meeting the objectives of the organization.
Gift (cash or items) are allowed to be given to Brydges Centre (children or staff) in the following guidelines:
- When you feel the desire to donate for any cause it is required that you inquire from the Management of the Brydges Centre for advice and approval prior to giving the gift.
- All gifts given by volunteers or other parties are processed through the main office before distribution. This means that the gift is recorded and a receipt will be issued by Brydges Centre to the donor.
- Gifts to children should never be given in private.
- Gifts given while in the country are not tax deductible and a tax receipt will not be given.
- There may be times when you desire to give a gift and it may not be possible for certain reasons. We will do our best to explain why this is the case and share if there are alternative ways of giving available.
- The decision to give is always yours (upon proper approval) and all Brydges Staff and partners are instructed never to guilt you into giving.
Termination of a volunteer contract
A volunteers service can be terminated with the immediate effect for the following reasons: use of alcohol or drugs at any time while serving with Brydges Centre (on or off the premises), theft, neglect of duties, failure to subscribe to the Brydges Centre statement of ethics, unreasonable behavior by either party or a change in circumstances due to which neither party can be reasonably expected to continue the agreement. Failure to adhere to any of the above Rules and Regulations may result in your being ask to leave the service and premises of Brydges Centre immediately.
