Brydges Skills Centre Graduation
Every year in the second week of December the students of the Skills Centre here in Ngong, Kenya graduate after completing their one year training program.
The Skills Centre is closed for the last three weeks of August and come early September they open for their third and final term of study. In preparation for this crucial term each year, there is a need for more funding to help towards practical lessons in areas of catering (food production) and hairdressing/beauty. Other miscellaneous costs assist the Brydges staff with transport costs while they are securing attachments for their students around the Ngong and Nairobi region.
Support is also required to assist in facilitating daily transport and lunch for each student whilst they undergo their attachments. The 20 students will be spending 6 weeks in their attachments at the beginning of September of each year.
Skills Centre Graduation
As soon as the girl's attachments are complete, they undergo formal graduation which enables them to obtain permanent employment. The cost of the graduation is budgeted at 120,000Ksh and includes the following:
- Tents, decorations and PA system hire
- Gifts and awards for the top students
- Food and meals for the students
- Graduation gown hire for all students and staff
- Miscellaneous expenses including transport and emergencies
The point of weakness for the Skills graduation event is that this arm lacks a specific sponsor and survives by the mercy of irregular well-wishers and one time donors. Other times by support of the sister project such as the children's home, but only in exceptional circumstances. If you are able to help in this area, please contact us here with information on how you can assist these girls with building a better future.
